Women of the Oklahoma Legislature

http://www.library.okstate.edu/oralhistory/wotol/

Throughout Oklahoma's history 77 women have been elected to the state's legislature.

The Women of the Oklahoma Legislature oral history project at the OSU Library

presents first-hand accounts of the journeys of these women to and through the

Oklahoma Legislature.

The goals of the project are to fill a gap in the historical record, supplement and

complement the OSU Library's Women's Archives Collection, support the Women's

Studies program, and to create a resource for all of the citizens of Oklahoma. Taken

individually, these interviews reflect the careers and interests of the women; taken

collectively they constitute a narrative of the role of women in the Oklahoma

Legislature over time. The interviews cover such topics as campaign strategies,

issues championed, a day in the life of a state legislator, as well as memories of

their swearing in days and their first experiences with presenting a bill on the

chamber floor.
